Strathcona County Online Crime Reporting Pilot Project

Posted June 08, 2020

June 8, 2020

Alberta RCMP launches online crime reporting pilot and your detachment area is a part of it!

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County detachment has been selected to be a part of phase two of the Alberta RCMP’s online crime reporting pilot program beginning June 8, 2020. The online crime reporting tool will allow residents of Strathcona County detachment area to report select crimes online and all reports will be followed up with by a phone call from a police officer within five business days. This project has been initiated to ensure the public is able to report certain crime types in whatever way is most convenient or accessible to them. A goal for the Alberta RCMP is to make sure all crime is reported, no matter how small. This provides the most accurate crime data and allows our resources to be deployed appropriately in the areas that need it most.

Citizens will be able to report the following crimes online:

·         Damage/mischief to property under $5,000

·         Theft of bicycle under $5,000

·         Theft under $5,000

·         Theft from vehicle under $5,000

·         Lost property

Incidents must also satisfy the following conditions to be reported online:

·         No witnesses or suspects

·         Item(s) lost or stolen must cost less than $5,000

·         Vandalized property will cost less than $5,000 to repair

·         There are no items involving personal identity, firearms, licence plates or decals

Other detachments rolled out in phase one and two of the pilot program include Airdrie, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Banff and Cold Lake. The full launch of online crime reporting across all Alberta RCMP jurisdiction will take place on June 15, 2020.

We encourage the public to report crime online, when possible. Reporting less serious crime online helps emergency call takers and frontline members focus their time on high-priority calls. We take all reports of crime seriously and crime reported online will be treated the same as crime reported in any other way.

WEBSITE OVERHAUL

Posted January 16, 2017

One of the crucial needs of SCCM is to be able to reach a wide prospective clientele through a variety of methods. One aspect of this is our on-line presence.  The Board of Directors has contracted with Destroy the Box, a local web site design company, to rework and substantially enhance the aesthetics and functionality of our web site.  Some of the new features to be added include a Members’ Only page and an on-line application form for prospective volunteers.  The new site will be mobile- and user-friendly and will bear a new logo.  You can expect to receive an invitation to the official launch later this year.

The pervasiveness of electronic communications notwithstanding, there is sometimes no substitute for the personal touch of face-to-face engagement.  To this end, and to reinvigorate SCCM’s relationship with some of our key partners, Board Members Trevor Dymchuk and Charlie Sarnoski have made presentations to each of the 4 watches of the local RCMP.  The purpose of this is to ensure that all Officers are aware of our services and to work out any procedural issues.  We hope to build confidence and trust in our ability to support the RCMP with a valuable service for situations that call for an alternative to formal enforcement.

IVC 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge

Posted January 13, 2017

The Strathcona County Information and Volunteer Center (IVC) has announced a challenge in 2017 in recognition of Canada’s 150 years as a nation. In this special year, the challenge will celebrate the energies and contributions of volunteers across the County.

It will feature a platform that allows volunteers to register and track their volunteer hours. Those who register will be acknowledged with a certificate signed by our local MLA and MP, as well as a specially designed pin. IVC will also host a celebration for participants toward the end of the challenge.

SCCM has decided to register our volunteers for this challenge, and to create an internal challenge involving all our volunteers.  We will receive more details from IVC on January 10th, and we will provide all details to you, our volunteers, at a special event on January 18th.
