Can SCCM mediate separations and divorces?
No, due to our mandate as a community mediation organization and our Insurance responsibilities SCCM is unable to offer mediation services for Separation/Divorce. SCCM can offer referrals to appropriate services.
Can SCCM facilitate a conversation regarding the communication within a Separation/Divorce?
Yes, SCCM can facilitate a conversation focused on communicating respectfully while going through a Separation or Divorce.
Can SCCM mediate between conflicting businesses?
No, due to our mandate as a community mediation organization and our Insurance responsibilities SCCM is unable to offer mediation services between businesses. SCCM can offer referrals to appropriate services.
Can SCCM mediate between a resident(s) and a business?
Yes SCCM can mediate community or neighbourhood issues between a resident(s) and a business.
I want to take my neighbour to court. Can I use mediation to build my case?
SCCM advocates for an open, honest conversation with the goal of resolution in mind. SCCM’s mediators or case builders cannot be called to testify in court, nor can any documents be called into court as evidence.
Can I bring a support person(s) to mediation?
Yes, most likely. SCCM strives to reduce barriers where able. Anyone requiring assistance to reduce a barrier may bring the necessary support person to mediation i.e. Aide, Interpreter, Family and Community Services support staff, etc. In addition, you may wish to bring a friend, spouse for moral support. All direct parties must agree with the additional participants prior to the mediation. All participants must meet with the case builder to ensure they are prepared.
How many people can I bring with me?
As balance is very important in difficult conversations, SCCM will work with all participating parties to ensure there is balance in the mediation. All direct parties must agree with the additional participants prior to the mediation.
