Volunteers & Training

SCCM’s volunteers are all fully trained in the methods, models and skills needed to guide conversations and encourage open, honest and respectful communication. Volunteers are neutral and non-judgmental, offer conversation guidance and promote problem-solving so that all participants can work together to create workable solutions.

SCCM offers a co-mediator and/or co-facilitator model, meaning there are always a minimum of two trained volunteers in every mediation or workshop.

To be a successful Society, a variety of skills and expertise is required. You need not be a trained mediator or workshop facilitator to volunteer for SCCM. All necessary training is provided. Are you great with numbers? Grant-writing?  Fundraising? Public events and awareness?  Do you enjoy working on a Board of Directors? If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities with Strathcona County Community Mediation, please (see link or email message option) and complete and submit the application form. A member of the SCCM team will contact you to talk further.

Training

You need not be a trained mediator or workshop facilitator to volunteer for SCCM. We can provide any training needed for you to be a contributing volunteer to our organization.

Those who express interest are provided with an application to complete and return to the SCCM office. Applicants are screened and interviewed by the Program Director based on current need within the Society. Applications are then brought to the Board of Director’s for final review. Successful applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check/Security Clearance, review and sign an Oath of Confidentiality and SCCM’s Minimum Participation Policy.
